2 Way MCB Box: Dual Circuit Breaker Enclosure

2 Way MCB Box: Dual Circuit Breaker Enclosure - IDIS India

Are you looking for a space-saving option for two different circuit protection systems? A 2-way MCB box (also known as a double pole breaker) is designed to keep two separate electrical systems/electrical circuits in one enclosure. Ideal for residential sub panels and small commercial applications.

At I-closure, we make quality, reliable, 2-way MCB boxes to accommodate all of your electrical distribution requirements. What are the features that will help you determine which one is best for your application?

Dual Circuit Breaker Specifications

The two-way MCB boxes we produce allow installation of standard DIN mounted circuit breakers. For a compact layout, our boxes have also been designed with appropriate circuit spacing. The MCB boxes provide many engineering benefits such as: (1) DIN mounting compatibility (for easy installation of MCBs), (2) proper arc fault protection between circuits, (3) heat dissipating channels to prevent overheating, (4) access through terminal blocks to incoming/outgoing electrical connections, and (5) see-through or solid doors for visual verification of electrical circuits. Additionally, the internal bus bar system within the MCB box distributes power to both of the circuits being protected effectively. Lastly, the provision of sufficient clearances allows for easy maintenance of the MCB boxes.

Two Way Load Distribution Benefits

When choosing between a two way configuration or a single circuit box, the number one reason is load distribution flexibility. You can split electrical loads across two independent circuits, which reduces your risk of losing all power from total circuit failure. You have also created a number of common load distribution scenarios including: Lighting and power outlet separation, Critical load isolation vs. non-critical loads, Different voltage on either circuit, Phase balancing in 3 phase installations, etc. In addition, this setup makes troubleshooting very easy; if one circuit trips, the other is still operational allowing you to perform maintenance on one circuit while keeping your critical service running.

Compact Installation Dimensions

Compact Installation Dimensions

Space constraints drive many 2 way MCB box selections. Our enclosures maximize internal capacity while minimizing wall space requirements.

Wall mounting brackets come standard with each unit. The compact footprint fits into tight electrical rooms and residential panel areas without compromising accessibility.

Branch Circuit Protection Methods

Proper branch circuit protection cannot be achieved by placing Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs) in a panel. Each enclosure is designed with multiple protection features to add additional electrical safe working practices. The following features are integrated as part of the design to provide a safe electrical working environment: Individual circuit isolation prevents cross-contamination of circuits. Properly sized equipment bonding points provide for safe use of the equipment. Conductors are protected from mechanical damage by providing a cable entry and strain relief. There are internal separators to maintain the required minimum electrical clearances. The IP65 rating provides the enclosure with protection from dust and water ingress. The enclosure material is designed to resist electrical tracking and offer superior arc protection. Therefore, if there is an electrical fault, the enclosure will still provide the necessary electrical safe working practices.

Residential Sub-Panel Applications

Residential Sub-Panel Applications

Residential electrical systems typically require extra distribution points throughout the home. A 2 way MCB is suitable as an ideal sub-panel for specific areas or functions within your house. Some common residential uses for these are:

Garage work shop to distribute power to the workbench Providing power to the garden shed Providing circuit protection for pool equipment Dedicated electrical circuits for home offices Isolation of kitchen appliances

Installing a 2 way box will be much easier than having to install a full-size panel. The 2 way box will provide enough protection for the electrical system, but will keep system costs down and will not create excess maintenance for the homeowner. Most local electrical codes allow these installations; check with your area inspector for exact requirements. Some local jurisdictions have special rules regarding where sub-panels can be installed and how many circuits can be installed on each sub-panel.

Contractor Selection Criteria

When selecting your two-way MCB box, there are many practical issues that need to be taken into account. In today’s world where electrical safety is such an important part of our lives (and price shouldn’t be the only thing that concerns you), there are several criteria that will help you make an informed decision. These include; A – the materials used relative to the environment in which they are being installed B – MCB compatibility with your current breaker suppliers (if applicable) C – how you want to enter the cables and wire them in (using a straight entry from the top of an 80mm high or from the bottom of an 80mm high MCB box) D – access to the door for maintenance purposes E – ability to mount at different locations on the wall or ceiling F – providing enough space behind the box to accommodate all necessary wiring G – ensuring ability to provide ongoing service after installation H – whether service will be required through existing MCB boxes or newly installed products I – whether there will be regular services to the MCB box and its components J – if the location of the installation will be exposed to water or extremely low/high temperatures K – each of these criteria is going to play a substantial role in helping you to select which product will be best suited to meet your needs. Our technical staff here at IDIS India have worked with over 1200 customers over the last several years with similar decisions and understand many of the issues associated with making a choice regarding your two-way MCB box.
